Jessica's Race
5K event raises funds to fight disease that took Valley woman's life
On Saturday, as hundreds of runners and walkers descend on Allentown's Lehigh Parkway for a 5K run to raise money for melanoma research, one of Jessica Coleman's dreams will come true. But the Lower Macungie Township woman who was the driving force behind the event will be missing.
Jessica, 38, died Sept. 17 of the very disease the race hopes to combat.
Now the race, originally called the ''Race Against the Sun,'' has been renamed ''Jessica's Race Against the Sun'' at the request of Jessica's husband, Ed. And although she will not be able to be at the race Saturday, it will go on as planned ''with Jessica smiling down on all of us,'' he says.
